Do you have a love for animals in need? Experience taking care of kittens or animals with special needs? We would love to add you to our foster care netowork! During primarily the spring and summer months, we work with the Animal Control Officers to place animals (primarily cats and kittens) in foster homes when they are newly born, ill, or in need of special attention. On average we place 30-40 animals a year in foster care. Food and supplies are provided. If you have room in your home and heart for these litters, please fill out our foster application.
Throughout the year we need volunteers to help with scheduled fundraisers such as our Hair of the Dog Happy Hour, Lakewood Summer Meltdown, and Arts Festival Bake Sale. The best way to get involved is to email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out what opportunities are available and when our next member meeting will be held.
Personal efforts by people like you help provide our community’s stray cats and dogs a better quality of life during their time at the shelter. The shelter offers volunteer opportunities for dependable persons, 16 years and older. Volunteers are assigned to help the Animal Control Officers on Saturdays between 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
If you are interested, please contact us with questions or download an application. Completed applications should be mailed or dropped to the City of Lakewood's Department of Human Services at 12805 Detroit Ave. Due to the fact that the shelter is a city run operation, a background check is also required.
PLEASE NOTE: Volunteer opportunities at the shelter are limited. We appreciate all of the interest in volunteering at our shelter. However, due to the small size of the shelter, we often have more volunteers than we can maintain on a regular basis. An alternate option could be hosting an offsite adoption event with the assistance of other volunteers from CCLAS. Email email@example.com for more information.
